Issued US Patents
Issued patents cover an orthogonal navigation and object identification system to enable Advanced Driving Systems using low-cost, reliable RFID tags embedded in the current infrastructure and on mobile objects. Vehicles use RFID interrogators and readers to obtain and transmit local information to the onboard computer.
Navigation Infrastructure claims embedding RFID beacons in pavement markers and other current infrastructure elements to provide hyper-accurate location and pertinent road information to the vehicle. For instance, they system provides information on the lane the vehicle occupies, distance to and number of the next exit, and alerts for approaching road conditions like sharp turns or steep downgrades. The vehicle uses this information to navigate a road, providing road information to the vehicle even when the infrastructure is visually obscured by environmental conditions.
Object Identification teaches obtaining identification beacon information from moving objects using the road, and using the signal to obtain the relative position of the objects. This reduces the uncertainty and lag times for DNN object identifications, improving the safety of all road users. In addition, the identification beacons and position allow the software to tag the image data from the cameras, providing large datasets of objects in various environmental conditions.
